Mortlach is one of Speyside's most distinctive single malts, produced in Dufftown at a distillery established in 1823 and currently owned by Diageo. Long valued by blenders and closely linked with Johnnie Walker, it has also built a strong reputation as a characterful malt in its own right.
Its style is defined by an unusually complex distillation process, often described as partial triple distillation, and by the ongoing use of traditional worm-tub condensers. The outcome is a robust, savoury and richly textured spirit, with the weight and depth that earned Mortlach its enduring nickname as "The Beast of Dufftown".
Today the range focuses on mature, age-stated single malts, typically featuring expressions such as the 12, 16 and 20 Year Old, alongside occasional limited releases. Throughout the range, Mortlach is recognised for muscular Speyside richness: dried fruit, dark honey, spice, roasted nuts and a distinctive meaty depth, complemented by polished oak and a long, warming finish.
