Hibiki is Suntory's flagship blended Japanese whisky, crafted to express elegance, balance and the house's long-established art of blending. Launched in 1989, it brings together malt whisky from Yamazaki and Hakushu with grain whisky from Chita, creating a style that is polished, floral and layered rather than heavy or forceful. The name means "resonance", and that sense of harmony is central to its character: Hibiki is constructed as a blend where texture, aroma and finish are designed to feel seamless and complete.
The bottle has become nearly as recognisable as the whisky itself. Its 24 facets are crafted to represent both the hours of the day and the traditional Japanese seasonal calendar, providing Hibiki with a presentation that feels distinctive without overshadowing what lies within the glass. The whisky's reputation, however, extends beyond appearance. Throughout the range, Hibiki is recognised for a refined profile of blossom, honey, citrus, soft oak and gentle spice, with mizunara oak frequently adding an extra layer of incense-like complexity.
The current portfolio includes Hibiki Japanese Harmony, Hibiki 21 Year Old, 30 Year Old and 40 Year Old, along with occasional limited editions. Together they illustrate why Hibiki holds such an important position in Japanese whisky: not merely as a famous blend, but as one of the clearest expressions of Suntory's blending philosophy and one of the most widely respected names in the category.
