Japanese single malt whisky is whisky produced from malted barley at a single distillery in Japan. Under current Japanese whisky labelling standards, whisky labelled as Japanese must be saccharified, fermented, distilled, matured and bottled in Japan under specified conditions.

Japanese single malt whisky is often best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water, particularly if you want to focus on its aroma and balance. Some lighter styles can also work well in a highball, but a straightforward serve is typically the clearest way to appreciate the distillery character.
