Convalmore Whisky

Convalmore was a Speyside single malt distillery in Dufftown, founded in 1893 during the late-Victorian whisky boom. Built close to the heart of one of Scotland's great distilling towns, it spent most of its working life as a producer of malt whisky for blending rather than as a widely promoted single malt.

The distillery became part of the Distillers Company Limited and later passed into the portfolio now associated with Diageo. Convalmore closed in 1985 and was never revived; the site was subsequently acquired by William Grant & Sons and is now used for whisky warehousing, while rights to the Convalmore name and remaining stocks sit with Diageo.

Official bottlings have been rare, including releases in the Rare Malts and Diageo Special Releases series, while independent bottlings have also helped define its reputation among enthusiasts. The whisky is often associated with a waxy, fruity Speyside profile, showing apple, pear, honey, malt, vanilla and gentle spice, with older casks developing richer tropical fruit, polished oak, herbal complexity and a mature, elegant texture.

Convalmore is now one of Dufftown's lost distilleries: absent from production, but not from serious whisky conversation. Its remaining bottlings preserve a style that was once largely hidden inside blends, and whose scarcity has made it increasingly valued by collectors and drinkers with an interest in closed Speyside malts.
