Benromach is a Speyside single malt distillery in Forres, with a history dating back to 1898. After several changes of ownership and periods of silence, the distillery was bought by Gordon & MacPhail in 1993, carefully restored and officially reopened in 1998, bringing a distinctive name back into active production.

Under Gordon & MacPhail's family ownership, Benromach has been shaped around a deliberately traditional style of Speyside whisky. Rather than pursuing the lighter, purely fruity profile often associated with the region, the distillery is known for a richer, lightly smoky character, produced on a modest scale with a hands-on approach to fermentation, distillation and maturation.

The core range includes age-stated expressions such as Benromach 10, 15 and 21 Year Old, alongside cask-strength releases, Contrasts bottlings and older limited editions. The house style typically combines malt, orchard fruit, honey, vanilla, soft peat smoke and gentle spice, with sherry casks adding darker fruit, chocolate and polished oak.

Benromach stands apart by reviving an older idea of Speyside: fuller, more textured and touched with smoke, but still balanced and approachable. For drinkers who enjoy classic malt whisky with substance rather than showiness, it remains one of the region's most quietly rewarding distilleries.
