Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

Blended Scotch whisky offers great versatility. It can be enjoyed neat, with water, over ice, in a highball or in classic whisky cocktails. Lighter blends tend to work particularly well in mixed drinks, while richer and more complex blends can be equally enjoyable when sipped on their own.

Blended Scotch whisky is a Scotch whisky created by blending one or more single malt Scotch whiskies with one or more single grain Scotch whiskies. Like all Scotch, it must be distilled and matured in Scotland for a minimum of three years and bottled at no less than 40% ABV.

Blended Scotch whisky is produced by choosing and mixing different Scotch whiskies to achieve a balanced final style. The blend may incorporate single malts for aroma, fruit, smoke or richness, and single grain whiskies for lightness, texture and consistency.

Single malt Scotch whisky originates from one distillery and is produced from malted barley distilled in pot stills. Blended Scotch whisky brings together malt whisky and grain whisky, frequently from several distilleries, to achieve a broader and more consistent house style.

A blended Scotch combines one or more single malt Scotch whiskies with one or more single grain Scotch whiskies. The specific blend depends on the producer and the profile they aim to create, whether light and smooth, rich and fruity or smoky and complex.

Blended Scotch whisky can cover a wide range of styles, but it is often recognised for balance, smoothness and consistency. Depending on the blend, it may show notes of honey, fruit, vanilla, spice, soft smoke or oak, with some blends lighter and more accessible and others deeper and more complex.
