Bacardí is one of the most famous names in rum, founded by Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba in 1862. Now part of Bacardi Limited, the privately held, family-owned spirits group headquartered in Bermuda, the brand has grown from a Cuban original into a global reference point for light, mixable rum.
The house style was shaped by innovations that helped define modern rum, including charcoal filtration, controlled blending and maturation in oak. Today, much of Bacardí's rum is associated with Puerto Rico, where its large Cataño distillery and Casa Bacardí visitor centre form a major part of the brand's contemporary identity.
Bacardí Carta Blanca remains the best-known expression: clean, light-bodied and designed for cocktails such as the Daiquiri, Mojito and Cuba Libre. The wider range includes flavoured rums, spiced styles and more mature bottlings such as Reserva Ocho, Gran Reserva Diez and Gran Reserva Limitada, offering a broader view of the brand beyond its classic white rum.
Bacardí's appeal lies in its versatility and scale, but also in its historical importance. It is a rum built for sociable, straightforward drinking, with enough heritage and technical influence to make it more than simply a back-bar staple.
