Buffalo Trace Whiskey Distillery

Buffalo Trace Whiskey

Although a recognised distillery wasn’t built until 1858, distillation at the Buffalo Trace site in Kentucky is said to date back to 1811, carried out by Benjamin Harrison Blanton. Named after the trails left behind by buffalo herds, known as 'traces', the distillery survived prohibition because it was granted a license to continue alcohol production for “medicinal purposes”.

Today the distillery produces some fine bourbons under the Buffalo Trace name as well as some smaller batch brands including Blanton’s, William Larue Weller and Eagle Rare. It is regularly decorated in international awards and is a must try for any serious student of bourbon.
